DAMAGED DEVICE
My old phone or drive no longer works
Preserve the original device and identify surviving backups before attempting a repair or recovery.
Avoid making the only copy your experiment
A device failure and a forgotten wallet password are separate problems. Before trying more software, establish whether the device holds the only copy of the wallet. Record what happened, whether it still powers on and which backups exist elsewhere.
Do not factory-reset, format or reinstall over the only possible wallet copy as a troubleshooting step. If a storage device is failing or has suffered physical damage, repeated experimentation may reduce your options. Arrange an appropriate assessment before further work.
Look for independent recovery material
- A seed backup made when the wallet was created.
- A wallet export on another drive or computer.
- An older device that used the same wallet.
- The original wallet application name and approximate setup date.
Record where you looked and what you found. Do not assume that a generic phone backup necessarily includes recoverable wallet keys; the application and backup method matter. Keep original files, even if you also make working copies.
Ask about the device and the wallet separately
Tell KeychainX the device model, type of failure, wallet application and whether you have another backup. The KeychainX service page describes assistance with damaged devices; a specific case still needs assessment.
An initial enquiry does not need your device unlock code, seed, private key or wallet attachment. Ask what information is needed and how it should be handled before sending sensitive material or shipping a device. This guide does not promise that damaged storage can be recovered.
